BIOGRAPHY
 

Matthew Brown began serving as the Assistant Conductor of the Canton Symphony Orchestra in July of 2007.

Before joining the CSO, Matthew Steven Brown lived in Baltimore, MD where he was the Music Director and Conductor of the Harbor Opera Company, a group devoted to the performance of modern American opera. He is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of the International Conductors' Festival, in which the first annual installment took place in Kiev, Ukraine in May 2007.

Mr. Brown holds a masters degree in conducting from the Peabody Conservatory ('05), where he studied with Gustav Meier and Markand Thakar, and served as conductor for various ensembles.

Mr. Brown grew up in Texas, where he began his musical life as a guitarist in his teens. He earned a Bachelor's degree in music history at Southwestern University ('02) in Georgetown, TX, where he also began his conducting studies with Lois Ferrari and Kenny Sheppard.

While conducting is his primary interest, Mr. Brown continues to be an active guitarist in various genres, most notably classical and blues.
