Early “First” Period: 1792 – 1802

• Lots of strings

• Simple melodies

• similar to Haydn’s compositions

Middle “Heroic” Period: 1802 – 1812

• More woodwinds and brass

• More grand and arge-scale works

• Example Piece: Symphony No. 5

Late Period: 1814 – 1827

• Lots of expression and emotion (like the Baroque Period)

• More percussion and brass!
