Violinist Vivek Jayaraman served as the Concertmaster for the Canton Symphony Orchestra during its 2016-2017 season after recently completing a four-year fellowship with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, FL. Performing across both the United States and Europe, Vivek has made several orchestral festival appearances with Spoleto Festival USA (Charleston, SC), Artosphere Festival Orchestra (Fayetteville, AR), Sun Valley Summer Symphony (Ketchum, ID), the Verbier Festival (Switzerland), Britten-Pears (UK) and Schleswig-Holstein (Germany). As a concertmaster, he has worked closely with several prominent conductors including Michael Tilson Thomas, Manfred Honeck, Gabor Takács and Valery Gergiev. Vivek has performed with the New York Philharmonic and Detroit Symphony Orchestra and is a regular member of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra in Switzerland.
As a chamber musician, Vivek recently performed Bartok’s Contrasts alongside Colorado Symphony principal clarinetist, Jason Shafer and renowned concert pianist, Yefim Bronfman. His performance garnered praise from South Florida Classical Review for its “admirable restraint” and “blazing virtuosity”.
Vivek received a Master’s degree in Orchestral Performance from Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Glenn Dicterow, former concertmaster of the NY Philharmonic and a Bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music studying with Charles Castleman. He is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma in Concertmaster Studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Cleveland Orchestra Concertmaster, William Preucil.
